Nicki

November 19, 2016 by

16 years ago our vet called to ask if we were willing to take a look at a dog that needed a home. She was a black pug/dachshund mix named Nicki. We said sure and upon arriving at the vet, they asked us to take her home and see if she was a fit, but nothing was confirmed that we needed to keep her. Upon arriving at our house, the first thing she does was pee in the hall. Second thing was that my husband and I looked at her and both said she was the ugliest dog we had ever seen; long body and flat faced. That first night we took her to a camp out with friends and all the children were grabbing her and pawing at her and she didn’t make a sound or try to bite them and later that night sitting around the camp fire she sat in my husband’s lap and only growled at outsiders who didn’t belong and appeared to be protector. It was then that we knew she was a keeper. Nicki was the gentlest dog that loved children and anyone who was around her as long as she was getting love. Nicki was a trooper; she loved going for walks and car rides and just being next to you. Nicki was a healthy dog but a few times had some close calls when my husband and I thought she wouldn’t make it, but she kept on going. I remember the time, we went for a ride and left Nicki in the car while we looked at some houses and she would go to the front and beep the horn at us. Another ride we were on she locked us out of the car and looked at us as if to say why aren’t you coming in? Nicki will be missed. She leaves her good friend, Turner dog that is missing her. Nicki was my first dog and she won’t be forgotten. Her ashes along with the other animals that have gone before her will be put together with me so that we can be together forever. We love and miss you Nicki. Thank you for being such a wonderful dog. Hugs and Kisses to you always.
